Getting started

Create your first deck

Go from a brief to an editable PowerPoint deck with Oria

This walkthrough takes you from sign-up to a finished, editable PowerPoint file. It uses Claude, where Oria builds a whole deck from one conversation. If you'd rather work inside PowerPoint, where Oria designs one slide at a time, see Working in PowerPoint at the end of this page.

  1. Create your Oria account

Go to account.oria.one/get-started and enter your work email. Type the six-digit code we send you, and check your spam folder if it hasn't arrived. The same page signs you in if you already have an account.

Then choose a plan. See Billing & usage for what each plan includes.

  2. Pick where to work

For a whole deck, connect Oria to Claude by following Connect to Claude. Your Oria account has the same guide under Oria for Claude. Oria works the same way in ChatGPT: see Connect to ChatGPT.

To design slides inside PowerPoint instead, follow Install the PowerPoint add-in. You can use both with the same account.

  3. Choose a style

A style (Oria calls it a reference set) is your saved company look: colours, reference slides, a design description and, optionally, your PowerPoint template. Oria applies the active style to every slide it builds.

    • To use a style you already have, ask Claude which Oria styles you have and pick one
    • To capture your own brand, ask Claude to learn your style from a deck: you get a private upload link where you add a PowerPoint, PDF or images of slides you like, then check the colours, reference designs and template Oria found

The style is saved once you've finished reviewing it on that page. It becomes your active style, and your default in the PowerPoint add-in too. See Styles and brand for the full setup and other ways to create a style.

  4. Describe the deck

Tell Claude what you need and ask it to build the deck with Oria. A good brief covers:

    • Audience: who will read it and the decision or outcome the deck should drive
    • Storyline: your main message and the points that support it
    • Data: the numbers, tables and sources to use, pasted or attached to the chat
    • Length: how many slides, counting the cover as slide 1
    • Style: which style to use

Oria doesn't invent facts or figures, so the more evidence you give, the stronger the slides. If something is missing, Claude asks before building.

  5. Approve the outline and generate

Claude proposes a numbered outline with a headline for each slide. Adjust it until the story is right, then approve it. Nothing is generated until you do.

Oria then builds the slides in the background, which takes a few minutes, and Claude shows the progress.

  6. Review and edit

When the slides are ready, you get a PDF preview. To change something, name the slide and say what you want:

On slide 3, replace the bar chart with a waterfall and shorten the headline

Only the slides you name are rebuilt, and the new version replaces the old one. You then get a fresh preview.

  7. Export to PowerPoint

When the preview looks right, ask Claude to export the deck. Oria produces an editable .pptx with native shapes, text boxes and charts, and Claude gives you a download link. Export takes roughly 1 to 3 minutes per slide.

Download links expire, so save the file once it's ready.

Building and exporting slides use tokens from your balance, while the PDF preview doesn't. See Billing & usage for details.

Example prompts

Build a 10-slide steering committee update for our CFO on the finance transformation program. The story: we are on track on cost savings, behind on the systems rollout, and need a decision on extra budget. The figures are in the attached tracker. Use our company style.

Turn these interview notes into an 8-slide findings deck for the leadership team, with an executive summary, five key findings and a now, next, later roadmap. Only use what is in the notes.

Working in PowerPoint

In the add-in, Oria designs the slide you have selected, one slide at a time:

  1. Click Oria on the Home tab and sign in with your Oria email and six-digit code
  2. Pick a mode: Text to Slide turns the text on your slide into a designed slide, Improve Design keeps your content and improves the layout and visuals, and Sketch to Slide turns a photo of a sketch, whiteboard or handwritten notes into a clean slide
  3. Optionally add guidance in Instruction for Oria (type it or use the microphone), and choose your brand under Slide style with Reference Style (see Styles and brand)
  4. Click Generate Design and pick one of the design options, or click Generate 2 More Options for more
  5. Click Apply Design: Oria inserts the new, editable slide after your original, which stays as it was
